Spicy Vermicelli

A healthy breakfast option!


Vermicelli-2 cups
Onion- ½ cup(chopped)
Garlic-1 tsp(chopped)
Green chilli- ½ tsp(chopped)
Cumin seeds(jeera)- 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Tomato-¼ cup(chopped)
Capsicum-¼ cup(chopped)
Salt-to taste
Oil-1/2-1 tbsp
Lemon juice-1/2 tsp


-> Roast the vermicelli till golden brown without oil. Keep aside.
-> Now heat up oil in a wok or skillet.
-> Add cumin seeds. When it starts crackling, add chilli.
-> Now add onion and fry.
-> Now add garlic and fry till its raw flavor fades.
-> Add capsicum.
-> Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes and then add tomato to it.
-> When the spices are cooked properly and leave oil, add the roasted vermicelli.
-> Add water(covering the vermicelli).
-> When the vermicelli is cooked. Add lemon juice to it.
-> Give it a nice mix and turn off the stove.

All ready to be served as a breakfast or as an evening snacks.

Note: You can add as many vegetables as possible to make it even more healthy :)

I am one of those people who simply hates to go to parlor for waxing and keeps on delaying the visit. But since it is summer and I can’t go without sleeveless, I need to visit it at least for my underarms to be done. I don’t like using razor or hair remover. The ‘former’ because it cuts the hair from in-between and the ‘latter’ because it tends to change the appearance of underarms, it looks dark and ugly. I don’t like both, so waxing is the only option left with me. Was just wandering in the supermarket and came across this product-veet bikini and underarms ready-to-use wax strips. I have used these ready-to-use wax strips before too on my hands and legs, but somehow I find the whole waxing process tedious and I seriously don’t have that much patience. But this product was so different. It has 8×2 wax strips. I just used 2×2 wax strips and the underarms hair was all clear. And now life has become really so easy. Even though I am lazy at doing waxing and find the whole process so boring, I do finish it off in dot 15 minutes. I am sure rest can do it in even lesser time!

4 tried and tested home remedies for curing dark circles!

Dark circles are very common these days. Blame it on the modern lifestyle or the habit of sleeping late or sleeping less. Before proceeding towards the home remedies to cure the same, first thing you need to do is to take proper sleep of 6 to 8 hours. I know, being a mom of a young kid, it is not always easy to have proper and continuous sleep. But we can try to inculcate in our kids the habit of sleeping on time. Try to create a dark and silent ambience in the bed room. Now let’s get started with the home remedies.

1) Cucumber slice/grated cucumber/cucumber juice:


Once my sister had terrible dark circles and what she used to do after coming back from office, is to apply cucumber juice all over the eyes. It even relaxes your eyes. And guess what, the bad looking dark circles disappeared within a week or so.
You can also do that, just apply cucumber juice or grated cucumber or you can even use its slice(grated cucumber workd the best). Keep it for approx. 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Do it DAILY for a week and you would notice the difference.

2) Potato Slice:


Potato is a natural bleach and is very useful in skin lightening. You can also use potato slice in the same way as cucumber in the above mentioned point.

3) Tea bags:

Don’t throw away the tea bags after using them. Let it cool down and keep them on your eyes for 15 minutes. Do it twice a week.

4) Almond Oil :

Almond oil, rich in vitamin E also helps. In fact, apart from curing dark circles it also act as an ant-aging agent, thus keeps wrinkles around your eyes at bay. My hubby had a bad dark circle few months back, and we know how guys hate to apply fruits and veggies on their faces(unlike us :P), so I used to apply almond oil around his eyes every night. The difference was noticeable within 2-3 days. Just make sure to use PURE almond oil.

Lauki kofta (Bottle gourd balls)




Bottle gourd-2 cups(grated)
Gramflour-1-2 tbsp
Ginger-garlic paste-1 tsp
Onion paste-2 cups
Onion-1 tbsp(finely chopped)
Tomato paste-1 cup
Green chilli paste-1 tsp
Green chilli-1 tsp(finely chopped)
Cumin seed-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1-2 tsp
Salt-to taste
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder-1/4 tsp
Garam masala-1/4 tsp
Bay leaf-1
Green cardamom-2
Oil-for deep frying
Coriander leaves-for garnish(finely chopped)


-> Take grated bottle gourd in a bowl and add a pinch of salt to it, mix and keep aside for 5 minutes.
-> Now squeeze out all the water from the bottle gourd and salt mixture.
-> Now add salt(yes, again) to the mixture, a pinch of turmeric powder and the chopped onion-green chillies.
-> Sprinkle little gramflour at a time till you get the proper binding.
-> Make balls.
-> Now in a wok, heat oil and deep fry these balls till golden brown.
-> Take out on a tissue paper or kitchen towel.
-> Take out excess oil from the wok(we need oil just to make the gravy now).
-> Add in cumin seeds, when it crackles add bayleaf, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon.
-> Now add onion paste it in. Fry for 2-3 minutes.
-> Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilli paste.
-> Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder. Fry till it leaves oil.
-> Now add tomato paste and salt to it. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
-> Now add garam masala and water.
-> When water starts to boil, add the balls.
-> Cook for 2-3 minutes and turn off the stove. Cover it with a lid and let it seat for around 10 minutes before serving.

Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves. All ready to be served with jeera rice, plain rice, paratha or roti 🙂

Paneer/Cottage cheese-1 cup(cube)
Mixed bell peppers-3/4 cup(diced)
Onion-1/4 cup(diced)
Garlic-1-2 tsp(finely chopped)
Green chillies-1 tsp(finely chopped)
Oil-1-2 tbsp
Corn flour-1 tbsp
Rock salt-1 pinch
Soy sauce-1-2 tbsp
Sugar-1/4 tsp
Salt-to taste
Tomato sauce-2 tsp(optional)
Green chilli sauce-1 tsp(optional)


-> Marinate the paneer cubes in rock salt and 1/2-1 tbsp of soy sauce for 10 minutes.
-> In a wok take oil.
-> Add chopped garlic and green chillies. Give it a toss.
-> Now add diced bell peppers.
-> Add diced onion. Cook they turn transparent.
-> Now salt and add water to it.
-> In a bowl take cornflour and water. Make a smooth paste.
-> Add the cornflour mixture to the wok, a little at a time and stir continuously to avoid lump formation.
-> Stop adding cornflour mixture when you are satisfied with the gravy consistency.
-> Now add soy sauce, sugar, chilli and tomato sauce.
-> Give it a boil.
-> Add paneer to it. Give it a good mix and switch off the stove.
-> Cover the wok with a lid and wait for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Face steaming for soft, glowing skin!!

Taking face steam has many benefits. It helps reduce and control acne and breakouts. It stimulates blood circulation through your face, thus giving a glow to your skin. Exfoliation after taking steam helps removing the dead cells and blackheads. But before taking steam do keep some points in mind:

1) The water temperature shouldn’t be more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
2) Don’t be so close to steam. Maintain a distance of atleast 15 inches from it.
3) Do not take steam for more than 8-10 minutes.
4) Taking steam longer and more frequently than a week can rip off the natural oil from the skin and can make it dry. You need to find out what frequency of steaming suits you according to your skin type. If you already have a dry skin, the frequency should be more than a month.

For better results, clean off your face before steaming. After steaming, exfoliate gently, clean, tone and moisturize. You can also apply a face pack after steaming. The pack will peneterate better as the pores are open. After cleaning the pack, do apply a chilled toner and then moisturize.

These days, I am making a special steaming water and loving the results! While boiling water, I do add a slice of tomato, 1-2 garlic and about 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice.

This is a super-yummy breakfast. Love it to the core!

Egg-2 nos.
Spinach-1 bundle(roots trimmed)
Mushroom-1 tbsp(finely chopped)
Cheese-1 tbsp(shredded)
Black pepper powder-1/4 tsp
Milk-1 tbsp
Olive oil or butter-1-2 tsp
Green chilli/Red chilli powder-according to your liking.
Salt-to taste (while adding salt, please bear in mind that cheese will also be salty, so add salt accordingly).

-> Clean spinach properly and take it in a frying pan. Put the pan on slow flame.
-> After 1-2 minutes you would see the spinach getting soft(and dark green too).
-> Take them out, squeeze out excess water(else the omelette will not bind properly) and chop them finely.
-> In a bowl take all the ingredients(EXCEPT cheese) and mix them well. Beat it for sometime.
-> Now heat up oil in a frying pan and put the mixture in it.
-> When the omelette is cooked at the edges, flip it.
-> Now add cheese to the half of the omelette and fold it half.
-> Flip it again and cook it well.
-> Turn off the stove and serve it with toast or whatever you’d like it with 🙂

How to identify your skin type?

Whenever you go to buy skin products, you get to see labels of ‘for dry/normal/oily skin’. When you know what your skin type is, it is easy to pick the product, but what if you’re confused? You mostly end-up buying any random pick! Why not to know your skin type and use the apt product?

You can know what you skin type is with the feel of your skin. But if you can’t, take this test!

In the morning, the first thing you need to do is to press a facial tissue against your face gently.

-> If the tissue comes out oily and greasy, then you have an OILY SKIN.

-> If the tissue is greasy around the forehead, nose and chin and the area, then you have a COMBINATION SKIN (T-Zone OILY).

-> If the tissue comes out normally and your skin feels normal, then you have a NORMAL SKIN.

-> If the tissue comes out normally, but your skin feels stretched, then you have DRY SKIN.

Boiled egg-4 nos.
Clove-2 nos.
Cinnamon-1/2″-1″ stick
Bay leaf-1
Green chilli-1 tsp(finely chopped)
Black cumin(shahi jeera)-1/2 tsp
Onion- 1 ½ cup(sliced)
Tomato-1 cup(finely chopped)
Ginger-garlic paste-1 tbsp
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Cumin powder-1/4 tsp
Black pepper powder-1/4 tsp
Garam masala powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Oil-for frying
Salt-to taste
Coriander leaves(chopped)-to garnish


-> Heat oil in a wok. Fry boiled eggs till golden brown.
-> Take out the excess oil and in the remaining oil add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon and black cumin.
-> Now add ginger-garlic paste and fry for sometime.
-> Now add sliced onion and fry till golden brown.
-> Add all the dry powders, mix well. Cook till oil separates.
-> Now add tomato and salt. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
-> Add garam masala and the fried eggs. Mix well.
> Now add water and give it a nice boil.
-> Turn off the stove.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or paratha! 🙂

Raqs Sharki (Middle Eastern name meaning “oriental dancing”) or belly dance is an ancient and popular form of dancing. Not only it is fun to do but has health benefits too. Read on the benefits:
